Happy December: New Moon Edition

blog

When it comes to new moons and full moons, I have been trying to make it a habit to do journal prompts from the Sisters Village instagram page. I find that her prompts are helpful and with her studying astrology, the prompts are on theme with what is going on in the celestial realm.

She writes down a to-do list which also often contains some sort of writing task, and her one she posted for today’s new moon said to write a gratitude list. I know I do that a lot here on my blog, but starting off the new month I think it’s a great time to sit and focus on what blessings surround us.

This December, I am grateful for:

  • My health/mental health. I can walk, talk, eat, and live life all on my own without assistance. I have access to doctors and my therapist who has especially helped me with my mental health over the past few years. I am no longer stuck in panic attacks or deep depression every day of my life, and I have learned so much about myself. This journey has only made me more curious and empathetic towards my mind and body, therefore allowing me to love myself.
  • My husband. I knew when I was 16 years old that I was going to marry my husband, and we finally tied the knot this year! Our wedding day was everything I ever dreamed of, and although the wedding was a huge highlight of our relationship, I am so thankful for the years of roots and foundation we built together. My husband was with me during some of the hardest parts of my life, and he never thought to leave or run away- instead he was my rock. He loved me for me and has always encouraged me to be my favorite version of myself- and I am that when I’m with him. I am so grateful for this love, and I pray everyone finds a healthy, strong love like this.
  • Our home. We bought our townhome over eight years ago, and I am still so happy with where we are. We have plenty of space, all of our appliances work, and we are blessed to be able to afford our mortgage and utilities. I always grew up in an apartment, and I am the only child, so I am the first person in my immediate family to purchase a home! I always wanted a home with a garage and I am lucky to say we have a two-car garage attached to our home. I am so thankful to have a warm place to sleep every night.
  • I am grateful to have such good friends, who truly love me and wish the best for me and my husband. I love friends who I can just talk to for hours, laughing a lot with no judgement. I love friends who are excited for my wins, just as much as I am excited for theirs, and overall I just enjoy the genuine love and support.

I could go on and on, but instead I’m gonna post a couple of the slides from that Sisters Village page, that way if anyone else wants to join along in some journaling/reflecting, you can!

As part of my new moon ritual, I’ll journal these other prompts in my actual writing diary today with some incense and calming music. Sending everyone so much love this holiday season, and I hope December is filled with love, miracles and joy! ✨

9-17-24 Full Moon Lunar Eclipse

blog

The energy of today is to take out the trash! Release anything no longer serving you. Look at your routines, your relationships, your inner dialogue- what needs to be released so that you can feel lighter and more free?

The astrology accounts I see talk about big changes and breakthroughs coming with eclipses, and I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling the chaotic energy. It’s heavy, but energizing- it feels like it fuels whatever the focus is on.

The other thing about eclipses is to release expectations, but also expect the unexpected. Remember all is happening for you, and the universe has a plan that you may not understand in this moment, but this is all important for your transformation.

I’m releasing the need to control. I’m releasing negative thoughts and resentment. I am releasing the negative beliefs that linger in the depths of my mind. I am releasing the tension that resides in my shoulders and jaw, as well as the tension in the rest of my body. I am releasing the need to have any external approval or validation. I am releasing any negative judgements towards myself and others. I am releasing all that does not serve my highest self.

Sending love to all and here’s to everyone having a positively transformative eclipse season!

Friday Feels

blog

Happy Friday the 13th!

I know most people feel like today is superstitious and unlucky, but I am the opposite. Today I am feeling blessed, grateful, and overall full of love! The wedding is only 19 days away and I am so ready to be married to my fiancé.

I also cannot get over that we’re getting married on our 13th anniversary, and 13 has always been his lucky number. We also happen to have a new moon solar eclipse the day of our wedding! Although we won’t see the eclipse, it’s exciting to have a celestial event going on during our special day!

Everything feels like divine timing and alignment, and I am so happy to be present to it all.

Full Moon Post

blog

I am so proud of myself for having hard conversations and speaking up even when it was uncomfortable. I am proud of putting my healing and goals ahead of my feelings, and actually stepping into my authentic self. I am proud of how dedicated I have been to the things I care most about: my relationship with my life partner, and my mental health. I can trust myself to follow through, and I can trust that I can get through anything. I choose faith over fear and I prioritize peace and love.

This full moon, I release any negative thoughts and self doubt that is limiting me from reaching my goals. I release the fears and worries that reside in my mind, as they were never mind to hold onto. I release the need for approval and for perfection, as I have had everything I’ve needed within me all along. I release what is no longer serving me or my authentic self, and I step into the person I am meant to be.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you 🌕✨

Full Moon Reflection

blog

As the full moon is upon us, I release the lingering feelings of self doubt and fear that hold me back from being the best version of myself.

I release limiting beliefs that keep me small and quiet, and instead I allow myself to express my thoughts and feelings without shame or guilt.

I release resentment and bitterness that is trapped within my muscles, letting go of any tension that was never mind to hold.

I know who I am, and I know that no one has power over me, such as I have no power over anyone else. I can only control my mindset and my reactions, and I release any urges to fix or predict other people’s behavior.

I love deeply. I feel deeply. I think deeply. I don’t wish to have surface level friendships or really surface level anything. To create authentic connections, I must be authentically connected to myself. I am embracing this journey of self love and healing, and within this I must let go of what is keeping me from processing.

Universe, Angels, and Guides of the highest truth and love, please allow me to let go of what no longer serves me, to make room for the abundance and blessings that are heading my way. Allow me to see, hear, and feel the truth that I need to experience to elevate me to my highest potential. Allow me to be a vessel for love, for creativity, and for the goodness of the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Universe, Angels, and Guides of the highest truth and love, please allow the world to open their eyes to peace and love, rather than chaos and evil. Allow the truth to be accepted and all of the people in the world to be free. Allow healing energy and light to flow over all those in pain, and bring food to the hungry and water to the thirsty. This world has so much love within it, please allow it to outshine over the darkness. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Happy Moon Day / Monday

blog

To say I am feeling refreshed would be an understatement. As much as my body is tired and moving slowly today, my heart and my mind feel so full. This weekend one of my best friends from high school flew in town and we had a fun-filled girls’ weekend! On Friday we visited our other high school best friend at her workplace and enjoyed delicious wine. They were hosting a new local food truck called WaffaDilla which was absolutely fantastic! Literally think waffles and quesadillas…. it was heavenly. They had a variety of mouthwatering sauces like zesty ranchero and spinach artichoke; not to mention their signature corn relish?! UGH so good! I am nowhere near a foodie blog, but they deserved the shoutout.

On Saturday I enjoyed a very special day with my closest friends and my mom as I went wedding dress shopping for the first time! When we first got there and I was looking through the showroom, I started feeling slightly overwhelmed and honestly disappointed at what options I was seeing. Everything was so glitz and glam and just overall too big and ballroom like which was not what I envisioned. Luckily we realized there were way more options in a different section and the shopping began! As I had quite a few options picked out I started feeling less overwhelmed and I let the excitement set in.

I was there with my favorite people (minus my fiancé), and I was trying on dresses for my freaking wedding day!!! One of my friends took so many photos for me on my phone and truly captured how I felt about every dress I tried on, and after trying on six different dresses, I said yes to the very first one I tried on!!! Mind you, I had favorited about nine or ten dresses before getting to the shop, and this one was not even on my list. The way that it made me feel and how it literally made every single one of us tear up, it was such an easy decision. I found the perfect veil to match and somehow got the best deal in the world and spent less than $250 total!! I feel so beyond grateful right now, and I am also just so happy that I am feeling so present in all of this.

After making that exciting purchase, me and my high school besties enjoyed a girls night out with good food, dancing, and too many shots LOL. I will say we started the evening very classy with yummy martinis in a quiet cafe bar, and it was fun to transition into the loud bars with dance floors after that. At bar close my fiancé came to pick us up, and we went home to enjoy some pizza rolls and our leftover fries and tots. Well, two out of three of us did LOL! One of us had a little bit too much fun and had to spend some time in the bathroom, but nothing we all haven’t experienced before! I was honestly surprised I didn’t throw up, but I think I saved myself by ordering water at the end when my girls were ordering more seltzers. Overall it was a fun, successful girls night full of honesty and great vibes!

Sunday we took it easy and enjoyed a yummy breakfast out at my favorite place (you know, where the love of my life asked me to marry him), and then went to see the Bob Marley movie! Honestly, it was very good and it tugged my heartstrings nearly the whole way through. Ziggy Marley, Bob’s son, is shown before the movie stating that he was there nearly every day for filming to make sure the story was portrayed as accurately as possible, which was appreciated. After crying for two hours we just chilled the rest of the day and went out for dinner later on. She is currently on her flight home and I am just taking it easy and relaxing before getting back to work tomorrow. I wanted to sit and write about this because it is the weekends like these that will be the memories I look back on when I think about wedding planning and really just looking back at 2024.

Today is a full moon and a lunar eclipse, which is fun for witchy people like myself. According to some spiritual Instagram page (just keeping it real LOL) it says this about lunar eclipses: “Bringing final endings. Emotions are high. They make us aware of the passage of time and make us sentimental. Memories and dreams come up to the surface.” I have definitely been more emotional lately, but it also is that time of month so that definitely doesn’t help. I’ve had lots of rage, and then lots of tears, both of sadness and of happiness.

Full moons are also looked at as competed cycles and as a time to reflect and celebrate the wins and the growth we’ve experience recently. I have been so proud of how I have been communicating and being more present and aware during conversations. I have been very aware of my emotions and allowing myself to feel them and just be, rather than controlling or shaming. I have been great about adding healthier foods to my diet and still taking my ginger shots and vitamins. When it is nice out, I get outside for walks and enjoy the sunshine. I have been working on being more in tune with myself and my body, and I am excited to keep moving forward on this journey. I am so thankful for this beautiful life I live. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

blog

On Friday I decided to go and get a haircut. I absolutely love my long hair, but I knew the ends were extremely dead and thin and I could see them splitting so badly. It makes sense considering it has been over a year since I’ve been to the salon, but this time I made sure to schedule an appointment for end of December so I can keep up with it.

I’m not going to lie, I was a little shocked at first, but this is nothing new. We always say it’s only going to be a couple of inches, but my curls get so happy and they start to spiral, so it automatically looks much shorter. I am feeling a lot better about it today, and I’m using it as a reminder to let go of what no longer serves me.

I was holding onto dead weight just because it appeared a certain way, but in reality it wasn’t healthy and it wasn’t helping me in anyway, as it just let my hair continue to split and deteriorate. This is a good reminder for myself to let go of unhealthy habits and release any negative thoughts that don’t serve me.

I also recently got my nails fixed after snapping one down to a nub, so I feel much better now that they are cute and even. I also am finally upgrading my phone after four years! I feel like a whole new me and I am ready for abundance and new beginnings! I feel that this is going to be a good week ahead and even if it isn’t, I’m going to do my best to focus on the positives!

New Moon / Healing Blocks

blog

The new moon is upon us, and according to the fun astrology Instagram accounts I follow, it is time to turn inward and release blocks that are stopping me from my dreams. I know there is still deeper healing to do, and I maybe have been avoiding it, but I know that this will be beneficial for my in the long run. I am a sensitive person and I feel emotions very deeply; my mom and aunt always said growing up that we are “Empaths,” for those who believe in those sort of things. I am learning to embrace the idea of being sensitive and having heightened emotions/feelings, while also trying to overcome a childhood where I was shamed for being these things.

A lot of the chaos and internal battles likely stem from the confusing messages that I received as a child. As my brain was developing along with my self-esteem, I had one parent who was trying to be encouraging and empathetic towards certain feelings, and I had another one who would tell me I was “dramatic” or I was always “overreacting” to certain situations. It definitely didn’t help that I was quite sheltered and felt overly-monitored, but also I was being controlled by adults who seemed to be out of control.

I know that all parents are doing their best with what they know, and I know that my parents love me dearly and felt they were doing everything they needed in order to keep me safe. I do appreciate the fact that I had two-parents in the home, and although they both worked, they were also home most of the rest of the time, so I did have time with them. Unfortunately, I don’t have many childhood memories (likely due to hypervigilance) and currently in my life I can tell I am still holding onto some anger and resentment, which is likely causing some of my blocks.

I feel angry for the younger part of me that didn’t feel protected, while also being over-protected. She felt like the emotional punching bag for her father, that is whenever he decided to participate in the family. At age seven, the family got a computer, and it felt like she lost her dad at that point. If he wasn’t sleeping or at work, he was sitting in front of the screen. Looking back now, I know that my mother was doing the same thing, but with the television. Part of the difference was that her and I could at least talk and bond over some shows, while it felt like my father drifted further away from any bonding. It felt like he only wanted to participate in conversation when it had to do with judging my life or my choices, or giving criticism to how I handled my emotions.

Looking at this now, I know it is because both of my parents had no clue how to handle or deal with their own big emotions in a healthy way, so they had no clue how to model or teach me something they didn’t even know. Although my younger, sensitive self would have appreciated some gentle parenting or emotional support, I know that I can give that to myself now. I can validate my own emotions, and I can admire that I feel emotions very fully and deeply. The fact that I can listen to and step into how someone may feel in their own situation is a gift, as I can empathize with and validate how they may feel, and it also allows for a deeper human connection.

Many people just want to feel seen and heard and understood, or at least have someone be open to listen to their perspective…I would love to be able to give that to others, and I know now that is because that I what I needed as a child. I want to put forth effort to acknowledge and show compassion to my own emotions, as that is what I need and deserve. Honestly, I get sad when I think about that I cannot express certain things or feelings to family and those who should be closest to me, but at the same time, it was never really their validation or support that I needed… I needed my own. Maybe I did need certain emotional support as a child, and I can take that information into my future life as a parent (hopefully), but for now it is important that I heal my own wounds and issues so that I am less likely to pass them to the next generation.

I know another block I have has to deal with attention. I find myself judging certain posts that people make online and literally see it as “they are just looking for attention,” and even if that is the case, why does it matter? This was something that was drilled into my head as a kid: attention-seeking is bad. Although I can 100% see how it can be bad, especially for those with low self-esteem or unstable mental health, it also can be something beneficial. The fact that Jay Shetty and Mel Robbins have captured the attention of millions is incredible! They encourage self-help/self-improvement and they help by looking at the science behind certain habits and ideas! People may have judged them or shamed them for the videos and posts they made, and if they had listened to them then we may not have their best-selling books or their podcast episodes… but instead they knew their intentions and listened to their intuitions.

I know that being an adult child of alcoholics, being quiet and “off the radar” was something I was basically trained to do. Daily drinking would be a concern to certain school counselors or teachers, or really any other adults around me…if that secret had gotten out, my parents could have been in trouble. If the police had seen the relatively fresh cuts on my arms after someone called them to our apartment, I would have been removed and my parents would be questioned. When I look back at things now, I feel like I can understand why I wasn’t allowed to do certain things, and it really had nothing to do with me. My guess is I couldn’t have sleepovers, because if I needed a parent to come and get me, they wouldn’t be able to since they were drunk every night. It could also be the fact that I would see how other families lived and operated that was more healthy or functional than what I had been living in. I’m sure they also didn’t want me to have attention drawn to me in any way, as depending on what that attention was for, it could lead back to my parents and their behavior.

I also don’t really know if I would get answers to these questions, as it is hard to approach most topics with my parents. My mom feels forever guilty about my childhood, my relationship with my dad is definitely estranged, although I doubt he even sees it that way. They are still together too which makes it difficult for me as I still sometimes feel a bit of guilt when I am making plans with one parent and not the other. My dad always made me feel guilty for the relationship with my mom, saying we were “ganging up on him,” and he felt like I hated him…yet he doesn’t seem to understand why I felt the way I did. Even after all of the mental work and reflection I have done, I honestly don’t even think any conversation would go well because I am sure my reality would be denied as it always was. It’s hard because they could really not remember due to the amount of alcohol consumed, or they also could be in denial-either way this will not result in any sort of productive conversation.

This is something that clearly still brings some anger, and I am still working to release this block of needing my parents validation. The truth is I never really needed it, again, I just needed my own. Now that I am an adult and am capable of listening to my own thoughts and intuition, I know that I am a good person, and my sensitivity is a gift. Me being open to sharing my story and how I came out of crippling anxiety is something I feel the need to do. There are many ACA/ACOA’s in the world, and we have many blocks and issues that we need to work through, and as we do, we are able to take back our own lives. It may look to some like I am seeking out the attention and validation that I didn’t get as a child, but I know my intentions and my own validation is the only validation I need. I feel proud of the work I have done, and I know that others who have similar struggles can also do this work and feel satisfied and full in their own lives. Although I have plenty of work to still do, I am happy with where I am, and I am looking forward to the journey.

New Moon, New Intentions

blog

This month I want to focus on my health and mental health. With the holidays approaching, I also want to focus on love and joy, and do the little things that make me happy. I want to live slowly and enjoy each of life’s precious moments- I want to be fully present.

Things I can practice to help me:

-Meditation

-Journaling

-Social media break

-Continue going to the chiropractor

-Go to the gym more frequently

-Reading

This month’s Mantra for me: I release and let go of what I cannot control, and I focus on the beauty around me.

What are you intentions this month?
