Little Life Update

blog

Life has been a little hectic lately dealing with sick cats. We brought our diabetic cat to the vet to stay all day for her glucose curve, and they ended up finding a tapeworm in her stool. They told us that they come from fleas or eating mice which is even more confusing because our cats show no signs of fleas, and the one time she caught a mouse (8 years ago) she definitely brought it to me like most cats do.

She then of course didn’t feel well due to stress from vet and now taking dewormer, but we also had to stop her insulin as well. Now my other cats started throwing up this week, one of which had diarrhea, so we had to drop off stool samples from my other cats off at the vet this week and was supposed to get a call yesterday but the vet was in surgery so she didn’t call. Today we should get the results and if the other cats have worms, then we also need to treat them.

Part of me is scared we are overdosing our cat with insulin, even though the vet says we aren’t even at max dose yet, but I swear she’s been like deteriorating since her diagnosis in May. She has arthritis, which makes sense because she was holding lots of extra weight for a while, but just seeing her walk so slow and not wanting to be walking around for more than a few steps is hurting my heart.

We’re gonna have to bring her for a second opinion about the diabetes and dosage too. I just want to see if maybe there are other, more natural routes for her. She’s about to be 10 so I know she’s a senior kitty now, but I’ve had cats who lived to be 17 and I’d love to see our Mushu get there.

It’s hard having all of our babies not feel well- luckily the other two have stopped puking/having diarrhea so hopefully that stays like that. Of course, if their stool does have worms, then we will have to deworm. We will see what the vet says today and hopefully we’re on the upswing from here!

Sunday Thoughts and Gratitude

blog

I feel grateful for the beautiful day I have spent with my husband. We’re about to go on a walk together which always makes me happy! Well, we’re actually going to play frisbee golf, which is also a fun time! I just want to get outside in the sun.

This morning we were up pretty early- we have to give our cat her insulin at the same time every day, and the doses are 12 hours apart. Since I was up so early to give her the insulin, I ended up staying up and watching the rest of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (lol don’t judge me) and my husband woke up about an hour and a half later.

We decided to go for a drive to go get some coffee, and then we went shopping for a little bit before heading back home. We did some cleaning around the house today which feels really good, and I purged my closet which was also needed!

This long weekend was much needed, and I’m just feeling so present and so grateful for so many things. I’m happy the weather is getting warmer and the sun is out. I’m happy that we learned how to give our cat her insulin and she will be feeling a lot better soon; I’m also grateful that she can still live for many years with diabetes, and remission is also a possibility!

I’m grateful that my husband and I get to enjoy this long weekend together, and that we can afford this life that we live. We’re so blessed to have our jobs and our skill sets, and I’m so proud of how far we’ve come, both individually and as a couple, over the past 13.5 years. I am so thankful for this life, and thankful to be present here in my body to feel all of the love.

Early Morning

blog

Well, it’s 5:49am on Sunday and I am typing this blog post while laying in bed. I woke up about 20-30 minutes ago to use the bathroom, and when I was trying to fall back asleep, I heard a noise from the kitchen. I walked out there and our cat Mushu decided to knock over the recycle bin like a dog (she likes eating plastic).

I walked out there & told her “no” and pushed her away from the bin and then put it all back and went back to bed. Not even five minutes later I hear the same noise again. This time I decided I needed to go empty the recycling so I brought it downstairs and I came back up and redirected her to her water bowl. She drank some and then was distracted by a box that was on the floor for her and she started playing with that, which is honestly what I was hoping for.

In the midst of trying to pet her while she was in play mode (I really need to stop doing that) I ended up getting a pretty decent scratch on my arm. I have cleaned it and put some ointment and a bandaid on it now, and honestly I’m ready to go back to sleep for a few hours. I’m going to go over to my mom’s later this morning and I’m looking forward to our walk together. It’s supposed to be sunny and beautiful today, which is perfect for mother’s day!

My husband and I went over to his parents’ house yesterday and brought over some Olive Garden for dinner! It was nice to just sit and chat about life and their business. I’m going to start helping them with their website and social media, so that will be a fun project to work on! I’m hoping this keeps me busy and excited to continue to work on my own creative projects!

What animals make the best/worst pets?

Cats are the best, and I 100% know this because my cat Sky has been nonstop by my side while I’m recovering from my surgery. She has been the best at cuddling and making me feel calm. She also turned ten years old on 4/4, the day after I had my procedure! I just love her so much and I also have two other cats that I love as well!

Stressful Morning

blog

I woke up and was burning up, and not because of a fever this time. I walk out to the thermostat (that we clearly need to upgrade) and it did it’s fun thing where the batteries on it just stopped, so instead of regulating the heat, it just let it go up to 81 degrees! Can’t wait to see our next gas bill LOL.

I also had to call the vet to schedule one of our cats, because he is doing this dry heaving thing without throwing up which isn’t normal for him. Of course, he’s our problem child who has to be medicated before even going to the vet because he howls and screams like a wild animal and scares all the other animals. They can’t get him in until Monday so I am just going to try to forget about it until then. It’s honestly not fun drugging and dragging him to the vet- it’s actually pretty traumatizing for everyone with how he acts.

My other cat was throwing up this morning, but I knew it was because she got into something based on the puke. Sure enough she chewed through my husband’s bag of SunChips he left on the desk. She is obsessed with plastic and has had her fair share of expensive visits to the vet as well, so we’re just keeping an eye on her. She’s acting normal for now and honestly she likely will continue to based on past behavior- at this point I am sure she has a plastic coated stomach that is used to it.

So yeah, I’ve been awake for a whole 30 minutes and I am feeling very stressed out, but all I can do is wait for the vet (also praying they call with a cancellation for today), buy a new thermostat, and breathe.

Dogs or cats?

I’ve had cats my entire life, and my fiancé and I have three right now. We have thought about maybe having a dog in the future, but we’d prefer to have a large yard. Cats are waaaayyyy more low maintenance than dogs considering you don’t have to walk them outside, and when we have people come watch them, they don’t even technically have to come every day as long as the food and water is full! Cleaning litter definitely sucks, but also walking around and picking up poop outside doesn’t seem much better LOL.
